OTHER INFORMATION HISTORY: Skylar Zero was a victim of misfortune. Born to a loving family, he had an unusual birth defect. His body, when still developing, had not shaped his voice box correctly, making it absolutely useless. He grew up without a voice, being mute. The doctors had told the parents over and over again, no matter how many times they ask them, the answer would be the same; it was impossible for him to ever talk.As the middle child, Skylar watched the world undisturbed. His older brother was the restless rebel, causing all sorts of problems for the family. While his grades were outstanding because of his high intelligence, he was always known for being a hot-head and a boy filled with so much pride it leaked out of him whenever he spoke. Even if many of the other children didn’t like his brother, Skylar saw him as a role-model. He was someone that Skylar idolized, not because of his brother’s choices, but the confidence that his brother never lost. Skylar wished for that kind of confidence; the ability to act however he wanted in situations without taking into account what others would think of him. He wanted to not care about other’s opinions of him, just like his brother never cared. His little brother was like Skylar in many ways, but unlike him, he had a voice. Opinionated and stubborn, his younger brother always had something to say to someone, letting everyone know what he was thinking all the time. Both of them were playful and friendly, but people tended to enjoy his brother’s company more because he would communicate back to them. Without a voice, Skylar had a hard time letting others who did not know ASL know what he was thinking. In elementary school, Skylar was teased often because he was different. Looking back on it now, he knows he can’t hate the kids who used to talk about him and exclude him from their games on the playground. He was different, and small children were scared of different. There were times when they would talk about him right in front of his face, because they thought since he couldn’t talk, he couldn’t hear them either. Sometimes, they forgot that just because he was mute, it didn’t mean he was deaf. While elementary school was rough, middle school was different. With the kids growing up, they began to understand his differences, although most just accepted his presence by not openly talking about him, instead of actually trying to befriend him. Skylar didn’t mind much however. He was used to being by himself, listening to music or reading. Through the year, Skylar did befriend a few kids inside his school. He wouldn’t have considered them close though, since they were the type of kids who was friends with everybody. Sometimes he would get invited to their birthday parties, and even though he went every time, the majority of those nights were just large parties where Skylar watched everyone else, because without a voice to add to the conversation, they quickly forgot about him being there. Academically, he wasn’t particularly gifted in any subject. His grades were average, mostly low As with a few Bs thrown in. Intellectually however, Skylar excelled in problem solving. He was very good with solving problems and riddles. The challenge drove him to figure out the answer, and he is a lover of puzzles. Skylar didn’t have the build of an athlete, but he was quick, and a decent soccer player. Joining the school team was a good way for him to let out some steam, but he was forgotten on the fields sometimes too because he was unable to call for the ball when he was open. While his parents were loving, they didn’t give him as much attention as they could have. With two other children and full time jobs, they also sometimes forgot that he was living in their house. The dinnertime conversations only allowed Skylar to sign at the beginning, because eating and communicating was difficult to do when you needed your hands for utensils. He mostly stayed in his room or out in the gardens in the backyard. Solitary was something Skylar was used to. Sure, he enjoyed people, but going to a public school meant he was unable to meet anyone who could be a wallflower with him. After his school days were over, Skylar decided that the best bet for him was to find somewhere quiet and work in a field that required little human interaction. It was hard to make people listen when they couldn't understand you. He decided that farming was his best bet, and searched out a town with fertile farmland and welcoming villagers. FEARS:
