He was staying cost free and could drink and eat his fill at the tavern next door. The least he could do was build a nice new front desk for Emilio, the innkeeper. He smiled, wiping the sweat from his brow and hoping that Emi was nowhere around so he could surprise him with it completely installed. He peeled the shirt that clung with sweat to his body off and used it to dab his forehead again before tossing it to the floor and beginning to lift the heavy hand hewn desk from the wheely cart and sitting it down in the spot where the old desk - already removed and chopped up into reusable chunks piled into his wagon bed - had been. He ran his hands over the intricate carving he'd done with the dark cherry wood with jade inlays that he'd dug up from mines in the last town he'd squatted in. It would be a fitting gift for the small and beautiful man who has shown him such kindness. The delicate and spindly tree trunks winding up the side with their branches meeting in the middle on each side, the clawed feet of the desk their slightly sprawled roots. It had taken much longer than he'd initially promised but that was because of how much detail he'd put into it. He really wanted Emi to like it, otherwise he'd have to fork over all the money he'd just earned from the boring old chicken coop he'd thrown together for the little rancher girl Fiona as payment instead. "There!" he bellowed at last once he was satisfied with the position and had dusted any excess sawdust away. He turned just as he heard the bell over the door jingle jangle, putting a big bold smile on his face at his job well done. He hopped up to sit on the desk, waiting for his eyes to adjust as the sunlight flooded the still darkened interior of the lobby. | [atrb=valign, top][atrb=style, width: 120px; padding: 15px; background-color: 312925;] 386 WORDS SHORT BUT IDC! |
