Duke Earl Townsman (lazy rich kid) this character is played by Beth PERSONAL INFORMATION NICKNAME: 'Ducky'- it's said just as it's pronounced. It came with a mispronunciation of 'Duke' that he honestly cracked up on and decided to nickname himself with from there on out. Also as a result, he enjoys being referred to as 'Prince Duck' and 'Sir Duck'...not like anyone's really expected to call him such a name, but yeah he can dream can't he? AGE: 21 GENDER: Male SEXUALITY: Heterosexual- homophobic to a certain degree though he does try and keep his head cool, he kinda fears being hit on. He honestly doesn't know what he would do- outside of be incredibly awkward and try to get away. If they don't hit on him, he's perfectly fine. PLAYBY: Ukyo from Amnesia. OTHER INFORMATION HISTORY: Born into a moderately wealthy family of traders, Duke had had just about everything handed to him since the day he was born. His needs were almost always met in some overcompensating way but various people outside of his parents. Servants dotting on him was common enough- considering though it technically wasn't in their budget to splurge so heavily, his parents indulged in such regardless, and thus when he couldn't get something directly from mother dearest, he was able to pull the ears of one of her maids. It seemed that though they were far from nobility, both his parents wished nothing more than to act like it, and therefore even from the youngest age, Duke was instructed to believe that he was superior in some form or another. His earliest memories consisted of his mother telling him just how great he was and just how much more wonderful he would be when he grew up. What child wouldn't grow an egotistical head from such words? The fact that the maids as well found him adorable in one form or another, or at least found him somewhat easier to deal with than some of the sons they had worked under, also opened opportunities for easy praise and a large head as a result. Duke absorbed it as much as possible always ready to try and get attention in one form or another. Four years after he was born, Duke's younger sister, Duchess, would come into the world. His parents were just as pleased with their new daughter as they were with their 'precious little boy' and she too was dotted on and taken care of in the highest degree. Possibly because he had spent the first four years of his life as an only child, Duke was utterly shocked by the shift in attention. Sure he was dotted on and given everything his heart could want. However, she was treated almost better than him. Jealousy sparked easily, and he began to become more outgoing and more socially demanding in order to compensate for the baby's cries for attention. It was actually quite stressful for his mother and servants as a result. As he grew older, this attention grabbing would become a charming little war between Duke and Duchess- though it was honestly one sided considering the baby didn't realize just what spite her big brother felt towards her. He would be better and get everyone's attention! He did just about everything to accomplish this even more- and learned that if he could be charming, he could get more of what he wanted. This would persist and grow in his personality as years went by, and he'd become quite chauvinistic as a result. Enrolled in a more than decent school when he was around five or so because his parents 'wouldn't have anything less', Duke was quite popular with his peers- mostly due to his now naturally outgoing personality. He enjoyed making friends- though he preferred the company of girls for various reasons. They were more fun to be around, and sure he enjoyed games with the boys, girls just tended to praise him more~ What could he say? Even back then he apparently 'loved the women' as he would casually say years later. He went through classes decently and made not the best but decent grades- his best being those that involved social skill and the like. However, when he was seven, his mother would get sick that winter and grow very ill very quickly. She would never quite recover often being very sickly and always staying at home wherein she was once a lively woman. His father worried for her compulsively and almost gave up his job for his wife. However, no medicine worked and nothing the doctors said would work did. Instead, Duke, the now very young Duchess, and heir father were forced to watch their mother degrade right in front of them. She died less than a year later, and Duke's father would fall into depression after that. Duke himself cried a lot and would grow a fear of doctors that had 'killed' his mother as he saw it. He stopped going to school for a few weeks-mostly just refusing to go out of the house- and was put behind a grade later as a result. Though he never admitted it, he harbored the hope for a long time that it was all just a dream and that someday he would wake up. It never happened. On the silver lining, the servants were there to continue to take care of the children, and more rich extended family helped fund Duke's father while he got back on his feet so to speak- only many years later. Duchess continued to receive attention and whatnot and would later admit that she had very few memories of what their mother even looked like and was therefore unfazed by the loss. Duke would harbor feelings though for years after that. When he did go back to school, it was harder for him. Duke tried to be outgoing, but every time, it always somehow exploded in his face often angering him in the process. He did his best to lock up his rage issues- something that would scar him in its own ways years later, and thus he managed to 'get over it' in the eyes of people around him. When his peers brought up his parents or their parents, he often laughed it off. He kept friends at a distance, always being decent but trying to keep separate despite how much he craved intimacy that reminded him of his mother. He enjoyed the company of teachers, though. In all grades, he found female teachers more motherly and willing to listen and be interactive socially. He enjoyed doing things to make them smile and was thus considered a teacher's pet as a result. Then again, he was nice to just about everyone, so it was somewhat easy to oversee for some people at least. He still had less than good acquaintances here and there as one would expect, but he was at least somewhat the more likeable personality type. However, as years moved on, he found himself overshadowed by Duchess. She was much smarter than him and seemed to naturally get along better with people without even having to force things. It drove more jealousy into Duke as a result, and unconditionally, he picked on her more as a result. She retaliated sharply often refusing to speak to him on any given day. Apparently she wanted her own separate life away from their depressed father and what she assumed to be an overbearing brother. Thus she tended to avoid them in one way or another. In middle school, Duke would start dating haphazardly- and in a less than intimate format. It encompassed the more cutesy things one would see from preteens and the like. His first "girl friend" if one could even call her that- since she was more of a bestie / one he could open up to a bit more than he would elsewhere- was nice just.. overbearing and weird sometimes after Duke had tried to transition from friend to boyfriend. Thus that didn't work out too well. A bit of drama went here and there, but it never really escalated too much if ever. Things began to change more as Duke entered high school. He had figure out more or less the dream guy perception that women seemed to had and did his best to try and fit that in every way. Why? Because they payed more attention to him and such that way. However, he never got past three months with a girl whether it was because she broke up with him or he broke up with her. During this time, his grades weren't the best due to these distractions, but teachers couldn't quite complain. The other males he sometimes associated with found him annoying for various reasons, and thus it only pushed him more towards the girls as a result. When Duke was sixteen, he entered a club for literary magazines and quite easily became the president of it. If it was one thing he was decent at doing academically, writing seemed to be his strongest. Thus that year his charismatic English teacher asked him to try and help revive the somewhat dying club whose senior participants were graduating that year. He jumped in and inflated it with flying colors. That being said, there were still problems, but as charismatic as Duke was, he could wrangle in members like crazy. When he graduated high school years later, Duke didn't initially go to college. Instead, he floated around for a while not sure what he wanted to do and thus living off his father in the process. It was during this time that the two would start to clash- his father wanting him to continue school, get a job, and do something productive, and Duke just wanting to wait and have fun until something came to him. Eventually, Duke set off on his own saying that 'he could make it on his own'- of course he took a considerable amount of money from his bank, the trust fund his parents had set up since he was born. It was not that much, honestly, but it was good enough for Duke. He ended up 'running away' one night after he had ensured his financial stability for a while and started traveling. Of course he didn't quite think of everything that he would need on such travels, but he wasn't willing to go back even when he found it was starting to get hard. Eventually he wound up in Pastora and has only been there for a few days or so now. FEARS:
